Why Yung Gecko Will Always Be An Independent Artist

With many musicians rushing to be signed by labels, Yung Gecko sees this as a possibility of losing control over your music. When beginning their careers, artists can be drawn in to receive quick money, and a label is able to feed this financial hunger. Yung Gecko believes that a label can take advantage of an artist’s talent and potential for the label’s own monetary agenda. While being independent certainly involves a higher workload for the artist, it in turn offers a higher reward for musicians who are able to make it out of the “starting” stage.

To Yung Gecko, being able to collect all of his streaming royalties himself and having the freedom to release music whenever he wants is something he would never give up. With labels also come contracts and commitments, which can be looked at as signing away the control of your career. Yung Gecko enjoys creating music when he is inspired and does not want to be rushed by an outside force, such as a label to meet their monetary quota.

Being an independent artist himself, Yung Gecko says that it may be a strenuous journey, but the end result is worth the initial hard work.
