Why is California struggling to control the coronavirus cases?

During the Spring season, the US government praised California for its swift control over the COVID-19 cases. However, suddenly the pacific region state has reported more than 31,000 deaths from the virus.

Since November 2020, California’s total cases have surged by more than 1000% already. The major cities like Los Angeles have reported the death of more than 2,000 people this week.

The ICUs in hospitals are already full, and ambulance services are already working day and night. They are also told not to transport those unlikely to survive as the hospitals are too full already. The state government has turned places like Disneyland into a vaccination centre along with Dodger Stadium. Californian Governor also turned Cal Expo in Sacramento and Petco Park of San Diego into vaccination centre.

But, the question still stands at how California is suddenly in such a dire situation?

The local and national health officials requested the Californians to stay at home during New Year celebrations and Thanksgiving. But unfortunately, the residents of California ignored the most restrictions. As a result, most businesses are already collapsed, and schools have been closed since March 2020.

Recent Updates on California

Currently, the Southern California region and Los Angeles are the hardest-hit regions in the whole country. The number of cases is rising higher among LA’s homeless population. However, the state is using its motels and trailers to shelter these COVID-19 positive people.

Senior Leader at Union Rescue Mission, Rev Andy Bales added that the current situation is the worst ever, which is the most horrific battle they have ever been in.

California is already under a strict lockdown since December, but the number of COVID cases is still rising. As a result, the state has recorded more than 2.9 million cases and more than 32,000 deaths so far. On Thursday, the state reported more than 40,000 cases in a single day.
