Our Priests as the Gatekeepers of Heaven?

It is Past Time for us to Evolve Beyond OLD World Religious Mythology and Their Get into Heaven Rules That Have Retarded Our Spiritual Evolution. Rules Enacted to Make the Priests Relevant and Give Them Power Over the People

Gates are often mentioned in Scripture, and gatekeepers were essential for maintaining order in old societies. Gatekeepers were guards placed for protection at various gates, such as palace gates, city gates, or temple gates. Ancient cities had tall, thick walls to keep wild beasts and invade armies (Joshua 7:5; Judges 5:8; Nehemiah 12:30). Heavy gates were placed within those walls to permit entrance and exit. A gatekeeper had to be reliable and alert for any signs of trouble. A gatekeeper slack in his duties could bring ruin upon the whole civilization, so the idea of gatekeeping implies alertness and security. The Guard of the gates in Psalm 141:3 is none other than the Lord Himself, as He guards our mouths, averting us from unwise speech.

David and Samuel selected 212 gatekeepers for “positions of trust” in guarding the temple of the Lord (1 Chronicle 9:22), and those selected rotated through week-long assignments. Verses 26–29 speak of the four principal doorkeepers who were accountable for the rooms and treasuries in the house of God. They would spend the night around the house of God because they had to guard it, and they had charge of the key for opening it each morning. Some were in order of the pupillages used in the temple service; they counted them when brought in and taken out. Others were assigned to look after the furnishings and all the other articles of the sanctuary, and the special flour and wine, incense, olive oil, and spices. Temple gatekeepers were in charge of who was coming and going. They confirmed order and reverence for God’s house.

Ezra accounts that 139 gatekeepers traveled from Babylon to Jerusalem with Zerubbabel (Ezra 2:42). When Nehemiah had finished rebuilding the wall around the city of Jerusalem, gatekeepers were some of the first positions he appointed (Nehemiah 7:1). This is significant because it must be protected from outside invaders before a town can conduct business. The Lord’s house needed gatekeepers for the same reason. Before God’s work could be executed properly, only the set priests and other designated servants could be allowed through the doors. God had given clear instructions about temple business. Gatekeepers were part of that blessed business, and their positions were believed sacred (1 Chronicle 9:26; Nehemiah 12:47).

All of these scriptures were written for a time long past. Today our peoples are getting more and more educated. Many have become disenfranchised and many more will if spirituality does not evolve and remains stagnated and boxed in by men’s words written long ago for a time that has long passed.
