India begins the vaccine roll-out for its 1.3 Billion people

India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has started the vaccine roll-out programme for his country’s 1.3 Billion people. This programme is a tribute to all frontline workers in India as they receive the first vaccine shot.

In terms of total cases, India has reported the second-highest number of cases in the whole world. Now India’s two approved vaccines, Covishield and Covaxin are shipped across the whole nation. Narendra Modi confirmed this launching of the world’s biggest vaccination drive during his address to the nation.

Later, the Prime Minister praised the hard work of frontline workers and paid his respect to them. Millions of doctors and nurses served humanity and saved many lives in India. As a result, these frontline workers will get the first shots of India’s approved vaccines.

Despite the roll-out of vaccines, Narendra Modi appealed his country’s residents to maintain all safety protocols. He requested the people to not fall for any rumour about the vaccines and keep following the social distancing. The Prime Minister added that as vaccinating the whole country will take time, it’s necessary to follow all COVID-19 safety precautions.

Who will get vaccine shots after frontline workers?

The country is set to vaccinate its more than 10 million frontline workers followed by policemen, army soldiers and other workers. After the first round, people aged over 50 years and under 50 but have any serious health issue will get vaccinated next.

In addition, the country is expecting to vaccinate more than 300 million people by early August of 2021. However, it won’t be easy for even a country like India to vaccinate such a large population. Thus, vaccinating the general population might bring them some real challenges. Above all, hesitancy over vaccine and side effects fear among people are some major concern for India’s government.
