Cialis is a brand name for Tadalafil. Tadalafil is a drug that is used widely by men with erectile dysfunction. It is a drug similar to Viagra. Another drug in the list of similar products is Levitra.

Before understanding how it works, one must understand what is the biology behind an erection. An erection of a man’s penis happens when the blood flow in the penis increases. The dilation of blood vessels inside the penis bring an increased flow of blood in the penis. Simultaneously, the blood vessels that take blood out of the penis contract. This action results in erection of the penis because of excess blood being accumulated.

Nitric oxide is also responsible for the erection. When a man is aroused, Nitric Oxide is produced in the penis. This results in production of cGMP. cGMP is what controls the blood vessels and allows them to dilate or contract. A counter substance PDE5 works by removing cGMP which results in normalizing of blood vessels. This brings penis back to normal. Cialis works in maintaining this balance.

For generic cialis to work, a man has to be sexually aroused after taking the pill. It is not advisable to take the pill more than once in 24 hours. Drug can be taken half an hour prior to having sex. A dose of 10 mg can be taken. The maximum dosage that can be taken at once is 20 mg. Only people above the age of 18 years can take it.

Like any other drug, Cialis too can have side effects. People with heart condition, diabetes, hypertension, cholesterol issues or existing eye problems mustn’t take it.
