US Indicts China for “Genocide” of Uyghurs and Other Minority Groups

The US has released an official statement against China in which it has accused China of “genocide” of Uyghur Muslims and other minority groups in the northwestern region of Xinjiang. The world superpower has said that China is committing heinous crimes and genocide against humanity.

Mike Pompeo, the US Secretary of State said in his statement that there is a systematic attempt made by China to completely eradicate Uyghurs, ethnic, and religious minority groups. China has voiced against all the allegations of human rights violations in Xinjiang.

The US has said that since 2017  the local authorities are running a campaign of repression against Uyghur Muslims and other minority groups including ethnic Kazakhs and ethnic Kyrgyz. According to the US State Department, around 2 million Uyghurs and other Muslim minority groups are detained in the internment camps in Xinjiang.

Further, it has added that Uyghurs are experiencing political indoctrination and severe abuse in the camps. Uyghur women were made to forcefully undergo sterilization and use birth control to put a cap on the Uyghur population.

In its response, China has declared its reeducation camps necessary to prevent religious extremism and terrorism in the Xinjiang region where around 11 million Uyghurs live in. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying in a press conference blamed Pompeo for spreading “poison” with his insensitive use of the word, “genocide”.

Hua explained that Pompeo has spoken a big lie just like he had done before several times. She even said that Pompeo is making fun of his country by speaking rubbish things. The US accusation against China on the last day of Donald Trump’s administration would make it difficult for the new US president Joe Biden to settle things with China.
