In Patiala, congress MP Preneet Kaur, wife of Chief Minister of Punjab Amarinder Singh, fell for one such fraud calls. Kaur, who hails from a Royal family of Punjab, nearly lost 23 lakh rupees because of a fraud call.
The cheat is from Narainpur Village of Ranchi, Jharkhand. He called Kaur posing as a Manager of State Bank of India. The fraud convinced her by saying that he needs details to credit her salary into her account. He took her account number, ATM Pin and CVV number mentioned on ATM card. He also managed to take OTP she received on her phone. Using these vital details he carried out a transaction wherein 23 lakh rupees were instantly debited from her account.
This was a high profile case that police had to take prompt action on. Within minutes of the incident, a 30 year old man named Ataullah Ansari was arrested from Jamtara. According to police, complete amount has been recovered from Ansari.
