How Competitive Sports helped Josh Pocock build a Winning Entrepreneurial Mindset

Josh Pocock, at just 22, is Founder and CEO of Executive Stride, a cutting edge Marketing and Lead Generation Agency fast gaining the reputation as a firm businesses can trust to fulfill promises, deliver top tier results and maximize client ROI.  And while building a successful company at such a young age may seem exceptional, believe it or not, Josh credits the sport of Hockey as one of the most significant factors behind his success.

Josh was born and raised in Toronto, Canada, to a single mother.  From childhood, Josh remembers always having an incredible drive to succeed.

“I’m not sure if I was born with such a strong drive, or if I’m the product of my environment – but I always remember being very determined to learn how to do things that interested me in the best way possible.

Josh loved playing hockey, and his mom worked hard to finance the costly sport, because she wanted him to experience the rewards and inevitable progress that come through making a serious commitment.  Josh thinks his mom’s decision to invest a big chunk of her income into high-level hockey, despite the financial hardship, was crucial in shaping his drive and work ethic.

Hockey taught Josh that when you put forth efforts consistently, results will come.  And the learnings he gained through hockey, have helped fuel his ability to invest long hours into business and continuing education, even when results aren’t immediately apparent.  Although Josh’s hockey playing today is more recreational fun than high level sport, he says the lessons learned playing the game competitively have remained.

“Hockey taught me discipline, hard work, and gave me my competitive drive; I got used to being on the ice 5 hours a day 5 days a week sometimes and playing 3 or more games every week.  I saw that my teammates lived in bigger houses and drove nicer cars than we did, but that just made me want to work harder to build the life I wanted.”

And Josh continues to live the healthy lifestyle of an athlete.

“Attaining top results in business is itself a peak performance sport, so if you’re not on your game physically and mentally, you won’t perform at your best; it’s crucial you’re eating right, working out daily, and getting your sleep.  Nowadays I train in mixed martial arts, Muay Thai and Brazilian jiu jitsu – they’re fun, and they spur my competitive drive and activate that killer instinct mindset which are essential characteristics of top entrepreneurs.”

Josh founded Executive Stride in 2018 and the company subsequently developed a unique automated lead generation system that keeps his clients’ calendars fully booked  with qualified appointments.  Executive Stride has been able to deliver amazing results to dozens of businesses across multiple industries, and they’re now launching their own series of Training programs, designed for people passionate about entrepreneurship and looking to build a sustainable income from the comfort of their laptop. The Stride Training programs include step-by-step guidelines with everything you need to know about setting up a fully automated client lead generation system that works 24/7/365.

“People think I’m an overnight success, but the truth is, I’ve been working towards entrepreneurship and building businesses my whole life – I always knew I was never going to work for anyone else, so I was studying business experts and going through all kinds of online training programs while most of my high school friends were happy working minimum wage jobs.  But I do believe the lessons learned through my years playing competitive hockey were some of the most critical ones.  And those lessons shaped my character and formed the foundation for the hard working, competitive entrepreneur I’ve become.”
