9 Deaths confirmed in the gold mine’s collapse

Two weeks after the collapse of the gold mine in Shandong province, rescue operations have been going on full speed as almost 20-21 miners were stuck in the mines.

The day before yesterday the rescue operation seemed very successful as 11 people were rescued. But tragically 9 miners were found dead today leaving one more miner still unaccounted for.

The miners have been stuck in the Hushan mine since 10th January after the entrance of mine collapsed.

The mayor of Yantai city Chen Fei gave the information of the incidents “From Sunday afternoon to this afternoon. The rescue workers have not stopped searching and found a further nine trapped miners who unfortunately all died. Moreover, one miner who died on Thursday, the bodies of the other nine miners were all lifted out of the mine.”

Rescue Work at the action

When the lead rescue worker Du Bingjian was asked about how he could reach the miners, he replied that the rescue operations were supposed to take weeks. But they took a big step forward when a huge boulder blocking the well suddenly fell dropped to the bottom of the shaft.

The first man to be rescued was rushed to the hospital as his condition was described to be “extremely weak”.

He was found in a completely different section than the rest group of 10.

However, the 9 miners found dead were believed to be in the “Sixth Central Section”. However, the details of how they were located are still unsure.

After the unexplained explosion that caused the cave-in, there weren’t any signs of life for at least a week. Then, on 17th January, the ropes were pulled by one of the miners. Moreover, communication was soon established, and food and supplies transferred down to them.
