Meet Emilia George: a New York-based sustainable clothing brand launches a collection of enduringly classic, yet comfortable maternity-to-motherhood apparel

Elle Wang started maternity wear clothing company, Emilia George, in 2019 when she was pregnant with her son George. Wang was in need of maternity wear that was comfortable, professional-looking and functional. Frustrated with the limited options available to her, the businesswoman and mama-to-be took it upon herself to start Emilia George.

Wang’s founding philosophy is ‘Pregnancy is a beautiful moment where motherhood is imminent, and femininity is blossoming. But expectant (and postpartum) women in executive work environments often feel like a ‘shrinking violet’ – sacrificing quality, comfort, and style – cloaked in the uncomfortable, synthetic fabrics of today’s maternity and nursing clothing’

As a working mother herself, Wang designed garments she felt was lacking in the maternity market. Therefore, she created a collection of business separates, suits and cocktail dresses for like-minded mothers who are also working professionals. All pieces in the collection are constructed from sustainable and recycled fabrics including cotton-born Cupro fabric which is not only soft but also biodegradable. Nearly all Emilia George fabrics are OEKO-TEX® certified, which makes them safe for nursing infants, naturally breathable, cooling and luxuriously soft on the skin.

Every piece in the stunning 26-piece collection is specifically designed to conform to and flatter any mother-to- be’s changing figure from pre-bump to postpartum. The cleverly designed garments are comfortable for the growing bump as well as functional for breastfeeding and pumping. Not only are they comfortable and functional but they are also machine washable. The prices on the website range anywhere from $279 for pants to $649 for outerwear.

Celebrities and bloggers around the world are fans of Emilia George. The company now counts blogger Sara Celina, Tamryn Miller and British model Holly Croft as fans of the brand.
