Interview with SM aka Sick Minded

As an artist, what is the hardest part of what you do?

SM: When you are an artist you put your trust in other people and always want to work and grind more and more. Having the ability to hustle for yourself is an awesome attribute but having other people believe in you is on another level because they don’t share your enthusiasm for your career progression no matter how much money you throw at them. That’s what’s hard. I hate asking people to do something cuz they just ain’t invested no matter how much money you throw at them, if you want something done you have to do it yourself.

Who or what was your influence on music?

SM: I listened to a lot of gangster rap growing up and also a lot of r&b, when I was growing up I remember going to block parties and people would throw down in some cyphers. I love being from the midwest cuz we got that cali swag with that New York walk. Just raised different. Influenced by gangs but wanting to be loved.

Who would you most like to collaborate with?

SM: Definitely have to be “CASKEY” signed to cash money but I love his songs and the dude has amazing talent. He brings a story a d a life to a song and his videos set him apart from the rest!

If you could open a show for any artist who would it be?

SM: Working with a bunch of awesome artists out there, I support a lot of Colorado artist but there are some people I’ve kept my eyes on and they are called “SKI MASK MAFIA”. They are out of California and making some pretty awesome moves in the industry.

What is your creative process like?

SM: Honestly I write music everyday, the process for me usually consists on the account of my ADHD. I get bored easily that’s why making music is amazing and everything that surrounds it because I can write, record, mix, produce and so many more things!

What are you working on right now ?

SM: I have a few projects I’m working on currently, having in my database over 100 songs and music ready to go the main focus is social media presence and making an impact over the internet. I have built all the building blocks for the background and underlying business with music. I am actually going to be attending school soon for engineering and recording arts. I will be way ahead of my class..lol.

Favorite place to eat ?

SM: Theres a little spot in Denver called “chubbys”. It’s a Mexican spot where you can go and get all you need to feel full and have a good time. They have the best chili cheese fries you have ever tasted! OMG! To amazing making my mouth water right now.

Do you plan on staying where you live or are you going to move ?

SM: Yes, my plan is to tour and to travel to places I have never seen before. I want to see things i have never seen before taste foods that i haven’t and experience different cultures. When your locked up for as long as i have been locked up you only see things on t.v. and wish one day you can make it a reality.
