Paige Taylor might not be a first response if you ask someone who their current favorite author is. But soon, Paige Taylor will be a response to that very question. At the young age of fifteen, Taylor has released her first book, Secrets Wrought in Blood (Blood Blade Trilogy Book 1), and she’s got writing talent that can take the book world by storm. We recently had the opportunity to sit and chat with this fascinating author, and here is what she had to tell us.
As a young author, you have accomplished much success. Where did your initial love of reading and writing come about?
I always enjoyed reading as a kid, which I think is where my love for writing came from. I began to write my own short stories until I eventually decided to write my own book. I went through multiple ideas and drafts that I gave up on before I got to where I am.
What do you think are the three most valuable traits for being a successful author?
I think there are a lot of different aspects that contribute to being a successful author, although I think patience is one of the most important. First, you have to have the patience for brainstorming, drafting your book, and editing. Once your book is complete you must also have the patience for contacting and awaiting a response from publishers, editors, or literary agents, depending on which path you take. Alongside this, imagination and a good vocabulary are big ones.
Talk about your book, Secrets Wrought in Blood (Blood Blade Trilogy Book 1). Where did the ideas for this come from?
Secrets Wrought in Blood was largely inspired by The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. There was a particular scene in The Hobbit that made me wonder, “what would happen if?” And I played around with the idea until a story formed.
When you’re not busy working on your next book, what are your favorite things to do?
Aside from writing, my favorite activities include reading, cooking, listening to music, hanging out with friends and playing volleyball.
Do you have anything in the works for the near future you can let your fans know about?
I am currently working on finishing books two and three. Book two is complete and I am currently rereading and editing it, whilst the first draft of book three is about halfway complete. I have many ideas for future stories, although I do not know which one I would like to move forward with next.
