Jeffery Epstein, 66, a disgraced financier has hanged himself in the New York Jail cell. He was pronounced dead after he was taken to the hospital. He was held on US sex trafficking charges. Jeffrey had shown signs of suicidal behaviour. And was under suicide watch, the police officials said.
Epstein had pleaded himself non guilty in all the charges. He had charges of sex trafficking involving dozens of underage girls. The girls were as young as 14 years old. And it was being said he was involved in the trafficking from 2002 to 2005.
Epstein was a well-connected money manager and in fact had President Trump, former President Bill Clinton and Britain’s Prince Andrew in his friends list. The officials are shocked by the suicide or assault. Investigations are in process. US attorney general William Barr said he was “appalled” to learn of his death in federal custody and said “Mr. Epstein’s death raises serious questions that must be answered.”
Epstein’s defense team has refused to comment on the matter. “We are enormously sorry to learn of today’s news. No one should die in the jail,” is their statement. Epstein’s death came a day after the unsealing of a court filing in which a woman accused Epstein of keeping her as a sex slave.
