According to a study carried out by a team of researchers, prescription-grade CBD is helpful to cure the Tudeous Sclerosis Complex (TSC). TSC disease emerges in the human body due to a rare genetic disorder. This disorder further produces hard to treat seizures. TSC is considered a genetic condition and it can be observed in one out of 6,000 people.

According to the US National Institutes of Health, TSC develop noncancerous tumors in the body and this tumor is difficult to cure through standard drugs.

Epidiolex is approved by the Food and Drug Administration to cure TSC. Epiodiolex is a liquid that contains cannabidiol in a pure state. This is one of the first CBD products based drug approved in the last year by the FDA.

The reason behind its approval from the FDA was to cure two other drug-resistant disorders called, Dravet syndrome and Lennox-Gastuat syndrome. The researches were funded by the Epidiolex maker, GW Research Ltd. They just wanted to make sure whether Epidiolex is able to cure TSC enabled severe seizures or not. Dr. Elizabeth Thiele was the leader of the study in this case.

Dr. Elizabeth Thiele’s team of researchers prescribed Epidiolex to 224 TSC patients belonging to medical centers in the six countries. Half of the patients were below 11 years of age. Some patients were given either 25 milligrams of Epidiolex or 50 milligrams of the same CBD based drug every day. Few patients were also assigned to take Placebo.

They continued the study for 16 weeks and found improvement in the patients consuming the CBD based dose. The seizure frequency in the Epidiolex consumers dropped by 50% while in the placebo consumers, seizure frequency was dropped by 27 percent. Dr. Thiele has decided to present her findings from the study at the American Epilepsy Society’s annual meeting in Baltimore.
